Biography:

The Wither Skeleton is a hostile mob found in the Nether dimension of the game Minecraft.

It's a variant of the standard Skeleton, but taller, black in color, and wielding a stone sword. Wither Skeletons first appeared in the 1.4.2 update (the "Pretty Scary Update").

These creatures are exclusive to Nether Fortresses and have the ability to inflict the Wither effect upon players they attack. When defeated, they have a chance to drop coal, bones, and more rarely, a Wither Skeleton Skull, which is essential for summoning the Wither boss.
